Acetic, propionic and butyric acids in ruminal and cecal digesta of sheep

, : Acetic, propionic and butyric acids in ruminal and cecal digesta of sheep. Nordisk Veterinaermedicin 25(12): 609-613

The fermentation in the rumen and caecum was compared in 2 sheep with fistulae given diets of hay alone, hay and 0.5 kg ground barley or lucerne hay and 1.0 kg ground barley; in another trial the diets were hay or lucerne meal. In the rumen the molar percentage of propionic acid was greatest with the barley diets.
