Acetylene reduction by non-symbiotic bacteria in artificial soil aggregates amended with glucose

, : Acetylene reduction by non-symbiotic bacteria in artificial soil aggregates amended with glucose. Canadian Journal of Microbiology 20(6): 877-881

he activity of non-symbiotic N2-fixing bacteria was studied by the acetylene-reduction assay in artificial aggregates of sandy clay loam and sandy loam soil, amended with glucose. C2H2 reduction rates and quantities were higher under anaerobic than under aerobic conditions. Aerobic N2-fixing bacteria proliferated in aggregates of the sandy loan only, in the 1-mm peripheral zone.
