The breeding programme at Fundulea is outlined. The first 15 single hybrids were introduced into trials in 1968 and of these, HS52 and HS53 were established in 1972 as Romsun 52 and 53. The yield increases shown by these hybrids over the standard variety Record were between 8% and 44% for grain and between 13% and 44% for oil.
