Achievements in breeding barley in Poland in the light of improvements in its technological properties

, : Achievements in breeding barley in Poland in the light of improvements in its technological properties. Nowe Rolnictwo 20(5): 17-19

From a comparison of the old varieties Browarny PZHR Skrzeszowicki and Antalek, the varieties Wanda and Jarek of 1964-65 and the most recently bred varieties, Damazy, Lubicki and Millenium, it appears that the results of breeding include a reduction in the protein content of the grain combined with maintenance of the correct ratio between soluble protein and malt content, together with a clear improvement in grain quality, an increase in malt extract, an improvement in viability and the maintenance of other properties.
