Anobiid beetle eggs consumed by a Psocid (Psocoptera: Liposcelidae)

, : Anobiid beetle eggs consumed by a Psocid (Psocoptera: Liposcelidae). Annals of the Entomological Society of America 65(3): 533-536

In laboratory tests in Mississippi Troctes (Liposcelis) bostrychophilus (Badonnel) ate eggs but not first-instar larvae of Xyletinus peltatus (Harris). At a ratio of 1 Psocid/1.25 eggs, the Psocids ate 71.7% of the beetle eggs in the absence of other food and 33.3% when other food was available. As Psocid numbers increased, the total consumption of beetle eggs increased proportionately.
