Chimeras vs X inactivation mosaics: significance of differences in pigment distribution

, : Chimeras vs X inactivation mosaics: significance of differences in pigment distribution. Developmental Biology 38(1): 202-207

X-chromosome inactivation mosaic mice differ from chimaeric mice in certain aspects of pigment distribution. The differences have been interpreted to mean that X-chromosome inactivation occurs much later in development than had previously been thought. In fact, however, these differences can readily be reconciled to early X-inactivation if one considers the very likely possibility of limited coherent clonal growth in the developing mouse embryo.
