Clover root curculio: estimates of larval injury to alfalfa tap roots

, : Clover root curculio: estimates of larval injury to alfalfa tap roots. Journal of Economic Entomology 68(1): 61-65

Field tests were carried out in Washington State during 1970-72 to determine whether injury caused by larvae of Sitona hispidulus (F.) to the tap roots of lucerne could be used as a measure of plant resistance. During the third season of plant growth, cumulative feeding injury to the tap roots was sufficient to show that there was a positive linear relation (nearly a 1:1 ratio) between the number of lesions (feeding galleries) and the percentage surface area of tap roots damaged.
