Differences in chloride content of flue-cured tobacco cultivars (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

, : Differences in chloride content of flue-cured tobacco cultivars (Nicotiana tabacum L.). Agroplantae 4(4): 69-72

Chloride content in the cured leaf of 24 flue-cured tobacco grown at 7 locations was compared with that of the standard Hicks. Plants of A9 and A11 (high and low Cl contents, respectively) were also grown in a glasshouse and were given 0, 80 or 160 ppm Cl/pot (as NaCl) twice a week, commencing 6 weeks after transplanting. Mean Cl content was highest (2.76%) at Koedoeskop and lowest (0.22%) at Nelspruit.
