Effect of excess protein from oilmeals or lucerne in the feed on mastitis

, : Effect of excess protein from oilmeals or lucerne in the feed on mastitis. Annales de Recherches Veterinaires 3(4): 633-650

Development of mastitis was studied in a herd of 46 Friesian cows in 4 groups. Two groups had adequate N provided by hay, silage and oilcake or by silage and lucerne. The other 2 groups had 50% excess of N from hay, silage and oilcake or from silage and lucerne. The experiment began 3 weeks before parturition and lasted until the end of lactation. The number of persistent infections at the end of the trial did not differ significantly between 2 groups given oilcake.
