In experiment 1, 12 Romney wethers about 2 years old in metabolism cages were fed once daily for two 20-day periods on 600 g DM from silage untreated or treated with formaldehyde at 1.7% of DM. Each silage was given to 2 replicates of 3 sheep, each of which also received 1.2 g/day DL-methionine by mouth, 2.4 g DL-methionine dissolved in 60 ml distilled water by injection at 2-day intervals or no extra methionine.
