From hatching, 149 Cornish X White Rock chicks were kept for 9 wk in rooms illuminated for 24 h (group A) or 10 h (group B) daily. The experiments were conducted both in summer and in winter. In summer, mean body weight of males at 9 mth was 1830 g in group A and 1825 g in group B; corresponding body weights for females were 1388 and 1436 g resp. In winter, mean body weight of males was 1877 g in group A and 1829 g in group B; corresponding body weights for females were 1515 and 1529 g resp.
