Efficiency of utilization of energy and nitrogen for milk secretion by buffaloes fed various levels of concentrates

, : Efficiency of utilization of energy and nitrogen for milk secretion by buffaloes fed various levels of concentrates. Journal of Dairy Research 39(3): 421-428

Murrah buffalo cows in 4 groups of 6 were given 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 or 0.6 kg concentrate mixture/litre milk produced. Energy and N balances were estimated in 2 cows from each in the 16th and 17th weeks of the study. The efficiency of conversion of gross energy into milk energy ranged from 10.9 to 12.7%. The efficiency of conversion of metabolizable energy (ME) and ME above maintenance into milk energy ranged from 25.0 to 32.2% and from 51.7 to 78.6%. Differences amongst groups were not significant.
