Experiments with grass carp in controlling exotic macrophytes in New Zealand

, : Experiments with grass carp in controlling exotic macrophytes in New Zealand. Hidrobiologia 12: 313-323

See also WA 21, 233. Lagarosiphon major, Ceratophyllum demersum, Egeria densa and Elodea canadensis are introduced exotic water weeds which have caused problems at times. Diquat is very effective in non-flowing water but decomposing weeds release nutrients back into the water. Brazilian snails (Marisa cornuarietis) breed freely in New Zealand and show promise for the control of these species but a very large population with its attendant problems would be needed to be effective.
