Fractionation and study of the organic matter in hydromorphic soils of Madagascar

, : Fractionation and study of the organic matter in hydromorphic soils of Madagascar. Cahiers ORSTOM, Pedologie 11(3/4): 227-236

fractionating method is described (successive extractions with acid and alkaline reagents) and was used for studying the accumulation and transformation of organic matter in two hydromorphic soils. Decomposition of organic matter and polymerization of humic acids were reduced by prolonged waterlogging. The amount of the humus fraction insoluble in acetyl bromide increased with decreasing periods of waterlogging.
