Fungistasis of sclerotia of Sclerotium oryzae

, : Fungistasis of sclerotia of Sclerotium oryzae. Phytopathology 65(3): 283-287

Sclerotia of S. oryzae germinate readily in distilled water but not in rice field soil. Soil inhibition of germination apparently depends on the presence of living cellular organisms, because it was annulled by filtration (0.45 mu m), heat sterilization or 7 days of soil microbial inactivity (dry at 1 deg C). Certain bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi produced inhibitory substances when incubated on PDA, while washed bacteria did so apparently with only the sclerotial exudate as substrate.
