Hexachlorophene toxicosis in dogs

Hexachlorophene powder was administered orally to 2 dogs of average size. Clinical signs that developed included diarrhoea, vomiting, hypersalivation, tachypnea, and depression. Abnormal findings included mild hypocalcaemia, decreased heart rate, and prolongation of the QT interval. One dog died 7 hours and the other 22 hours after administration of 450 mg of hexachlorophene. Gross and histopathological abnormalities were not found.
