Hexachlorophene-pHisohex toxicity in pups

, : Hexachlorophene-pHisohex toxicity in pups. American Journal of Veterinary Research 35(7): 1005-1007

Puppies aged 2 to 3 weeks were given hexachlorophene at 3.75, 7.5, 15, 30 or 60 mg/kg body-weight. Those given 3.75 and 7.5 mg/kg survived although they shown signs hyperexcitability. Of 6 puppies given 15 mg/kg or more, 4 died within 12 to 24 hours with twitchings, increasingly severe convulsions and opisthotonos. Pathological changes seen at post-mortem examination are described.
