High temperature injury of ripening in rice plant. 1. The effects of high temperature treatments at different stages of panicle development on the ripening

, : High temperature injury of ripening in rice plant. 1. The effects of high temperature treatments at different stages of panicle development on the ripening. Proceedings of the Crop Science Society of Japan 42(2): 207-213

When rice Norin 17 (japonica) was subjected to high temperature (day/night temperatures 35/30 deg C) just before or just after flowering, >20% sterility resulted, more carbohydrate and N remained in the straw and 1000-grain weight was greater. High temperature just before or during flowering decreased pollen size and the storage of starch in pollen and increased the proportion of anthers which did not dehisce.
