Histopathological studies of root-knots of Portulaca grandiflora caused by Meloidogyne javanica

, : Histopathological studies of root-knots of Portulaca grandiflora caused by Meloidogyne javanica. Indian Phytopathology 26(3): 568-573

The development and morphology of the giant cells formed by Meloidogyne javanica in the roots of Portulaca grandiflora have been studied. Giant cells are multinucleate and possess clear cell walls during early development, but these become softened and broken in places as they grow. Gall formation is due to the enlargement mainly of cortical cells and partly of vascular cells. In affected roots xylem elements are poorly developed.
