Hypophysial and serum concentration of prolactin in the rat after vaginal stimulation

, : Hypophysial and serum concentration of prolactin in the rat after vaginal stimulation. Neuroendocrinology 13(1): 63-68

Vaginal stimulation (VS) in virgin female rats on the 1st day of oestrus induced an increase in serum prolactin levels 15 min, 6, 9, 10 and 12 h after stimulation. Normal levels were observed 2 h after VS but a decrease appeared 8 h after VS. In non-stimulated rats a significant variation was observed, with a peak at 10.00 and 18.00 h and min. values at 12.00 and 16.00. Adenohypophysial prolactin concn. showed a decrease both 15 min and 6 h after VS.
