In vitro evaluations of protein and protein-safflower oil complexes treated with formaldehyde

, : In vitro evaluations of protein and protein-safflower oil complexes treated with formaldehyde. Journal of Animal Science 38(2): 467-474

Casein, safflower meal or whole seeds, sesame meal or whole seeds, soya protein and lucerne meal were treated with different quantities of a 40% aqueous solution of formaldehyde. Then 0.2-g samples were incubated for 21 h with 40 ml strained rumen fluid. When casein was filtered, washed with tap water and dried immediately after mixing with 1, 5 or 10% formaldehyde the ammonia released during 21 h of incubation was reduced by 28, 93 and 99%.
