Induced floral mutation in Physalis ixocarpa Brot

, : Induced floral mutation in Physalis ixocarpa Brot. Current Science 44(1): 21-22

A mutant was obtained by treating seeds with 0.5 or 1.0% diethyl sulphate, 0.75% dimethyl sulphate or 20 kR gamma rays. Various floral changes were observed in the mutant such as early bud opening, style projecting from the bud, short corolla tube with a slow growth rate and stamens placed wide apart with the exposed ovary projecting above the floral parts. Pollen fertility was 98% but fruit set was poor and the seeds did not germinate.
