Isolation and characterization of Streptococcus uberis of bovine mastitis origin

, : Isolation and characterization of Streptococcus uberis of bovine mastitis origin. Dissertation Abstracts International 31B(8): 4884

Two mucoid strains (U3M and U5M), biochemically typical of Str. uberis were isolated from cows with mastitis. A small proportion of both strains survived vat pasteurization. Strain U3M fermented glucose but not melezitose, was CAMP positive in TKT medium, grew in 4% salt solution at 21 and 45 deg C while strain U5M did not. Non-mucoid variants obtained by serial passage on culture media also possessed the properties of their parent strains.
