Western Province can be considered an area of traditional cattle husbandry from both the natural and socio-economic points of view. The present study tries to (1) describe the peasant cattle husbandry of Western Province; (2) analyze the obstacles which hinder a market-orientated cattle industry; (3) point out possibilities of increasing market production. The data for this study were gathered in Mongu District.
