Morphological abnormalities in the acrosome and nucleus of boar spermatozoa

, : Morphological abnormalities in the acrosome and nucleus of boar spermatozoa. Nordisk Veterinaermedicin 26(3): 215-218

Microscopic examination of semen from a 1-yr-old subfertile Large White boar, with normal testes and semen of normal appearance, revealed an abnormality in the form of a round, slightly irregular area in the anterior part of the sperm head in approx. 35% of the cells. Further investigations by electron microscopy showed that the abnormality appeared as a protuberance, frequently with a refractile, vesicular centre, and usually surrounded by a marked annular border.
