Morphological variations in the acetabulum of the dog

, : Morphological variations in the acetabulum of the dog. Annales de Medecine Veterinaire 117(Fasc.3): 163-175

The topography of the acetabulum and its variations, depending on breed and conformation, was examined in 112 adult dogs of different ages, free from joint diseases and hip dysplasia. The structure and development of the acetabulum are described. At birth the ilium, ischium and pubis are isolated zones of bony tissue united at the acetabulum and ischio-pubic symphysis by cartilaginous tissue; the three bones are fused at about 6 months.
