Pathogenic effects of Cladosporium herbarum and Penicillium decumbens

, : Pathogenic effects of Cladosporium herbarum and Penicillium decumbens. Sabouraudia 11(3): 251-255

The pathogenicity of 2 common air-borne fungi (C. herbarum and P. decumbens) in rabbits that inhaled daily a suspension of living spores was studied. One group inhaled 2.5 X 106 spores for 12 days, another group for 16-20 days, a third for 30 days, a fourth for 50-70 days and last, 90-123 days. After 10 days, different degrees of inflammation of the respiratory tract began to develop and this was accompanied by the formation of specific antibodies and allergy.
