Performance of early-weaned lambs as affected by sound type and intensity
Arehart, L.A.; Ames, D.R., 1972: Performance of early-weaned lambs as affected by sound type and intensity. Journal of Animal Science 35(2): 481-485
Early weaned lambs were subjected to 3 types of noise: USA Standards Institute (USASI) noise, instrumental music and intermittent miscellaneous sounds (IMS) at 75 and 100 decibels (dB). Relative to control periods spent with a background noise of 45 dB, there was a significant increase in av. daily gain at 75 dB of USASI noise (0.41 v 0.23 kg) and IMS (0.39 v 0.16 kg); food conversion was also improved. Treatment at 100 dB was significantly less effective.
