Persistency of milk production in the first lactation in dairy cattle, its heritability estimate and its relationship with production traits

, : Persistency of milk production in the first lactation in dairy cattle, its heritability estimate and its relationship with production traits. Indian Veterinary Journal 50(6): 530-535

Persistency of 1st lactation of 246 Sahiwal, 105 Red Sindhi and 68 Brown Swiss crossbred cows at the National Dairy Institute, Karnal, was calculated by Mahadevan's formula Mean persistency index for the 3 breeds was 3.05 plus or minus 0.05, 3.96 plus or minus 0.09 and 3.03 plus or minus 0.06, with coeff. of variation of 26.65, 28.59 and 17.66% respectively; the differences between the indices were not significant.
