Persistent Newcastle disease virus infection in embryonic chicken tracheal organ cultures

, : Persistent Newcastle disease virus infection in embryonic chicken tracheal organ cultures. Infection and Immunity 8(4): 657-664

Tracheal explants remained morphologically intact and supported the replication of NDV for 6 months. Peak titres of released virus occurred after 1 week, whereas maximal immunofluorescence was not observed until 30 days. The inoculum titre was not critical, and viral persistence resulted with both strains of NDV tested. Serum was not required.
