Plant responses to iron, leaching, and time after liming a virgin alluvial entisol from eastern Costa Rica

, : Plant responses to iron, leaching, and time after liming a virgin alluvial entisol from eastern Costa Rica. Proceedings, Soil and Crop Science Society of Florida 1972; 31: 165-169

In pot trials the yield of Pangola grass was reduced by 74% and that of millet (=Pennisetum americanum) by 50% when the tropical soil was limed at 10 t/ha. Except for necrotic leaf tips on young millet (mainly in the absence of liming) no indicative deficiency symptoms were observed. P availability, as measured by plant P content, was not affected by liming, nor were the concentrations of Ca, Mg, K, Al, Fe, Zn and Mn, except in Pangola grass, where Mn was reduced from 458 to 116 ppm.
