Preliminary study of the nutrition of an African earthworm, Millsonia anomala (Acanthodrilidae, Oligochaeta)

, : Preliminary study of the nutrition of an African earthworm, Millsonia anomala (Acanthodrilidae, Oligochaeta). Annales de Zoologie: Ecologie Animale (Hors Ser.): 133-145

The activity of M. anomala at Lamto (Ivory Coast) was related to soil moisture; in 1969, a very dry year, worms were quiescent for 8 months on the plateau and slope and 7 months in the swamp. The diurnal pattern of casting showed two peaks, at midnight and 9.00 h, during a wet period and one peak only at 5.00 h during a dry period. The casts contained higher proportions of silt and clay fractions than adjacent soil.
