Production feeding of lambs with diets based on grain. 1. Whole wheat plus sodium buffers or sodium chloride

, : Production feeding of lambs with diets based on grain. 1. Whole wheat plus sodium buffers or sodium chloride. Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture and Animal Husbandry 13(60): 22-26

1. For 84 days 160 Australian Merino lambs were fattened in 5 groups, given wheat and limestone only or supplemented with sodium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate and disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride or disodium hydrogen phosphate. Compared with lambs on the basal diet, daily feed intakes were 42% greater and weight gain was 36% greater on supplemented diets except that with only Na2HPO4.
