Relationship of bulk milk somatic cell levels and mastitis incidence

, : Relationship of bulk milk somatic cell levels and mastitis incidence. Annual Meeting, National Mastitis Council, Inc, February 4-6, 1974: USA, National Mastitis Council, Inc : Thiel, C C; Smith, F F; McDonald, J S; Fiez, E A; Natzke, R P; Bushnell, R B; Schwinke, A : Annual Meeting, National Mastitis Council, Inc, February 4-6, 1974: 56-61

The % of quarters infected with primary pathogens showed a correlation of 0.90 with % of quarters having cell counts above the threshold level, but of only 0.50 with herd bulk milk cell counts. Increasing the frequency of sampling from monthly to duplicate daily samples produced only a slight improvement in this correlation (to 0.56).
