Role of potassium in the regrowth of subtropical Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana Kunth)

, : Role of potassium in the regrowth of subtropical Rhodes grass (Chloris gayana Kunth). Potash Review (7/12): 2

In sand-culture experiments Rhodes grass was given 2 levels of either ammonium or nitrate N in combination with 2 levels of K, and plants were cut at 14- or 28-day intervals at 6 cm above the soil level. The high level of NO3 (15 meq/l) with low K (0.1 meq) increased total yield by about 40% at both cutting frequencies over that obtained at low levels of NO3 and K. At high NH4 with low K a yield increase of 10% was obtained.
