Seasonal variations in the onset of puberty in rats

, : Seasonal variations in the onset of puberty in rats. Endocrinology 91(2): 611-613

The time of vaginal opening and 1st ovulation was determined in Sprague-Dawley rats at 2 seasons of the year. In summer, vaginal opening occurred at 34.2 plus or minus 0.1 days of age and ovulation on the same day (34.3 plus or minus 0.1 days). In Jan. and Feb., vaginal opening was delayed significantly (39.6 plus or minus 0.5 days) and ovulation occurred on the same day.
