Short note on the wilting phenomenon in crop plants

, : Short note on the wilting phenomenon in crop plants. Agronomy Journal 65(3): 514-515

n a greenhouse study diurnal variation in water deficit, resistance to water transport and the internal plant-water relations of IR-8 rice plants were determined to understand the phenomenon of wilting in rice plants. Wilting occurs at a definite value of turgor pressure rather than the complete absence of turgor pressure and is associated with a marked change in the elastic property of the leaf tissue. The wilting may also be affected by the resistance to water movement in plant tissues.
