Simple method for detecting amylase inhibitors in biological materials

, : Simple method for detecting amylase inhibitors in biological materials. Journal of Nutrition 104(7): 930-936

A simple semiquantitative method for detecting amylase or amylase inhibitors in biological materials is described. The substrate consisted of a 0.25% starch-1.5% agar gel slab buffered at pH 6.5 with 0.1 M NaCl. Three millimetre wide cellulose strips saturated with a solution to be examined for inhibitor were placed parallel on the gel slab for 2 h at 37 deg C.
