Some aspects of the biology of Orobanche

, : Some aspects of the biology of Orobanche. Symposium on Parasitic Weeds, Malta, 1973: 55-67

See also WA 20, 273. Seeds of certain species of the Orobanche will germinate in vitro if exposed to compounds such as malic acid + ADP, lipoic acid and betaine or if the embryo coat is denatured by immersion in an aqueous solution of calcium hypochlorite. In the latter case, the embryos are very susceptible to phytopathogenic micro-organisms, especially Fusarium spp. and Pythium spp. Products formed by the oxidation of phenols present in the seeds give a degree of protection to the seeds.
