Experiments were carried out to evaluate the germination response of axillary buds of C. rotundus under various conditions with a view to improving the effectiveness of control measures. Submergence of tubers and bulbs in still water for up to 32 days and shading of aerial parts induced dormancy in the axillary buds while submergence in aerated or running water encouraged buds to sprout.
