Cl. perfringens type A organisms were recovered from the faeces of 3 out of 30 horses (10%) in numbers of 101/g. Two of three isolates were found to be toxic. In cattle, perfringens was found in 37% of the animals examined (20 strains); in most animals (90%) numbers of the bacteria were from 101 to 102/g. Nineteen strains were of type A (12 toxinogenic), and one of type D. Strains of perfringens (27 strains) were recovered from 54% of the pigs examined.
