Studies on the oxygen consumption of the larva of Calliphora erythrocephala Meig

, : Studies on the oxygen consumption of the larva of Calliphora erythrocephala Meig. Biologisches Zentralblatt 92(2): 179-192

The oxygen consumption of the larva of Calliphora vicina R.-D. (erythrocephala (Mg.)) increases with increasing body weight, but the two are not completely proportional. The oxygen consumption per unit body weight decreases in older larvae. The intake of oxygen by the larva falls with a decrease in the oxygen content of the air, younger larvae being more sensitive than prepupae in this respect. No mechanism of adaptation to oxygen-deficiency exists.
