Rabbits, 6-8 weeks old, were given an oral dose of 50 ml E. coli broth culture (serotype O85, 8X108-109 bacteria/ml) plus 1-6 ml of a coccidial suspension (various intestinal Eimeria spp., 500000 oocysts/ml), or the E. coli culture of coccidial suspension alone. The 20 animals receiving the double infection all developed diarrhoea in four days and this persisted until death or slaughter.
