Internode length of rice plants was investigated in order to develop an index showing internode distribution pattern and the relationships between this index and other agronomic traits were investigated. Internode length increased from lower to upper internodes, the top 6 of which elongated after panicle initiation in a geometrical progression; lower internodes which elongated before panicle initiation, however, remained fairly constant in length.
