, : Studies on the permeability of sugarbeet tissue to stored sugar. Journal of the American Society of Sugar Beet Technologists 16(7): 595-604

The rate of diffusion of sugar from discs of sugar-beet root tissue was inversely related to the salt concentration in the external solution up to 0.2M and was lowest at pH 6.5. The rate of diffusion increased with temperature until extraction was complete or, in the presence of external salt solution, until thermal cell damage occurred.
