Studies on the phase variation in jute hairy caterpillar, Diacrisia obliqua Walker (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae)

, : Studies on the phase variation in jute hairy caterpillar, Diacrisia obliqua Walker (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae). Pakistan Journal of Zoology 3(1): 101-121

The effects of rearing larvae of Diacrisia obliqua (Wlk.) under solitary (1) and crowded conditions (5, 10 and 20 larvae/95.6 cm3) were studied in the laboratory in Bangladesh at 28.9 deg C and 85.2% R.H. Under solitary conditions there were seven and under crowded conditions six larval instars. The duration of larval development averaged about 30, 22, 20 and 20 days, respectively, for increasing degrees of crowding.
