Studies on the physiological determinants of grain yield in sorghum

, : Studies on the physiological determinants of grain yield in sorghum. East African Agricultural and Forestry Journal 39: 29

A tall local variety, Namatera, showed a relatively small increase in grain size when parts of the head were removed, and a relatively small decrease following defoliation. Yield in this variety appears to depend more upon the limited head capacity than upon the carbohydrate supply. This was attributed to a high degree of competition between stem elongation and head development.
