Studies on the physiology of seeds under storage. 1. Rate of sorption by seeds and influence of fumigants on their viability

, : Studies on the physiology of seeds under storage. 1. Rate of sorption by seeds and influence of fumigants on their viability. Andhra Agricultural Journal 1973; 18(3): 122-127

Air-dry groundnut seeds contained less moisture than those of sorghum or pigeon pea seeds and when kept at 75-80% r.h., groundnut took up water more rapidly than the other species but reached a water content of only 15%, compared with 17.1% in pigeon pea and 18.2% in sorghum. Fumigation with methyl bromide or Durofume (50% methyl bromide + 50% ethylene dibromide) decreased germination of groundnuts but had less effect on unshelled pods than on seeds.
