Studies on the possibility of replacing larvae of Hylotrupes bajulus L. by those of other Cerambycid species for the determination of the insecticidal value of wood-preserving treatments

, : Studies on the possibility of replacing larvae of Hylotrupes bajulus L. by those of other Cerambycid species for the determination of the insecticidal value of wood-preserving treatments. Folia Forestalia Polonica 10 B: 87-95

Because the mass-rearing of larvae of Hylotrupes bajulus (L.) for the evaluation of wood preservatives is not easy, laboratory investigations were made in Poland on the rearing of Arhopalus (Criocephalus) rusticus (L.) and Leptura rubra (L.) as alternatives. When larvae of A. rusticus 1-2 years old were transferred to untreated wood blocks, mortality was high and it was concluded that they were unsuitable.
