Studies on the possibility of rice cultivation with periodical irrigation. 1. First results with some selected lines

, : Studies on the possibility of rice cultivation with periodical irrigation. 1. First results with some selected lines. Riso 23(Numero Speciale): 21-31

The continued annual supply of some 40 000 m3 water/ha for rice cultivation in Italy is not assured. Studies are in progress on minimizing consumption by periodically withholding water during the growing season. Failure of previous investigations may have been due to use of varieties adapted only to continuous submergence. Trials during 1971-3 are reported, in which 29 japonica X japonica and indica X japonica hybrids were usually irrigated at 8- to 15-day intervals.
